HiLo Sonics is an analog focused recording studio in Nashville, TN. The heart of the studio is an MCI JH 428 console and a Studer A80 24 TRK tape machine. We love to record artists to tape while embracing the advantages of modern technology. Some projects stay completely analog, while some start digital and move to tape. Whatever the project calls for, we are prepared to accommodate.

HiLo Sonics is the personal production space of producer and engineer, Mike Colman. Mike works with a variety of local Nashville artists in addition to producing and writing music for picture with Fortest Music . Growing up in the SF Bay area, Mike was exposed to a large variety of music. Throughout his childhood there was always a fascination with sound. From recording punk bands with a mixer and cassette deck to studying jazz guitar, Mike was always finding new ways to create. A musician first with a curiosity for how things worked, recording was the perfect fit.

Producer, engineer, and videographer Brian Totoro also calls HiLo home. Having helped a good amount with the build and gear selection, HiLo wouldn’t be where it is today without his knowledge. Since moving to Nashville in 2007, Brian has worked in the music business all over town. He’s had the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best producers and engineers in the business (Niko Bolas, Dave, Cobb, Vance Powell, John Mcbride, Dann Huff, etc).

Hilo Sonics also works in close association with Jaan’s House, an artist hostel for touring acts coming through Nashville. Jaan Cohan of Jaan’s House co-manages the studio with Mike. Guests of Jaan’s House often come record at HiLo.
